I love the month of November so much! It’s the start of holiday season and the month that subtly reminds us to show gratitude and have a heart of thankfulness. 

Sometimes in the rush of everyday life, especially if you’re a business owner, it’s easy to look past all that we have to be grateful for.

As cheesy as it may sound, taking the time to slow down and really acknowledge what you’re thankful for in life and in your business can be the heart check you need during an often busy time of year. 

For me, my family always makes the top of my thankful list! When I’m not working, I’m spending time with them and I’m constantly trying to carve out even more time to spend together. 

But I have a business thankful list too! And as your resident lawyer girlie, I thought it’d be fun to share 24 Things I’m Thankful For: Legal Edition.

Because jokes aside, I really AM thankful these things exist because without them, my business wouldn’t run as nearly as smoothly as it does now (and chances are, yours wouldn’t either).

24 Things I’m Thankful For: Legal Edition

1. Clear Contracts – because handshake deals and verbal commitments just don’t cut it in 2024
2. Disclaimers – because without them, I’d have a lot more “wait, that’s not what I meant!” moments
3. Terms and Conditions – so everyone knows the rules of my business playground and if they try to fight me on it, I have the written receipts 
4. Privacy Policies – because just like my audience wants to know I’m not sharing their information, I like to know the same when I’m on the other side of the table
5. IP Protection – there’s enough to worry about in the world and being worried that someone is going to steal my ideas and treat them as their own isn’t one of them 
6. NDAs – for those times when my work feels a little like being a secret agent
7. Refund Policies – so clients know when they’re eligible (and when they’re not) and I don’t have to have the awkward conversation 
8. Copyrights – because I work too hard on my content for someone else to swipe it
9. Trademarks – for turning my brand name into something as unmistakable as my signature
10. Payment Terms – so I get paid for my work without having to chase clients like a bounty hunter
11. Data Protection – because safe client data equals a safe business (and a safe me)
12. Scope of Work Clauses – making sure “just one more thing” doesn’t turn into “ten more things”
13. Limitation of Liability – for those “Oops, did I really say that?” moments
14. Force Majeure Clauses – giving me legal grace when the unexpected comes knocking
15. Digital Product Terms – so customers know exactly what they’re buying, how it works, and how it can be used legally 
16. Client-Friendly Legal Templates – so I can save time, stay compliant, and skip the DIY drama
17. Contract Amendments – for the moments when life changes, but we still need the legal part sorted out
18. The FTC – professing my love for The Federal Trade Commission might sound weird, but without them we’d be a lot less protected as business owners 
19. Cease-and-Desist Letters – because a polite “please stop” sometimes needs a little more backbone
20. Website Terms of Use – making sure visitors know the “house rules” before they start clicking around
21. Copyright Infringement Warnings – protecting my creations from digital poachers one copyright symbol at a time
22. Confidentiality Agreements – keeping my business secrets safe, like grandma’s famous cookie recipe
23. The Legalzine – because it’s time legal things in business finally feels FUN and doable, not scary and confusing (someone had to do it, so I did 😏)
24. The TBL Contract Shop – because DIY’ing contracts is sooooo last year and business owners should be able to find the contracts they need with ease (yes, I use my own contract templates, what else would you expect?!)

And there ya have it! The things I’m most thankful for as an online business owner in the legal industry. 

All of these things play a major part in the way I run my business. It just so happens that I’m in a position where I also get to educate others on all of these things too
