This isn’t the first time that I’ve written about copyright infringement on the blog… and it won’t be the last.
And that’s because it’s unfortunately SUCH an epidemic in the online business world, specifically when it comes to social media content.
As a lawyer, I continue to be shocked at the audacity that some people have to straight up STEAL and use content that they see on social media. It happens on the daily and is something that I’m constantly helping clients handle behind the scenes.
Here’s the thing: there is a fine line between being “inspired” by someone’s content and copying and pasting to claim as your own.
The tricky thing with online business is that there are hundreds of people doing very similar things so things can get murky reallll quick, especially when it comes to content.
Sometimes yes, there are coincidences and two creators might truly create similar styles of content that speak on the same subject, but generally speaking, there is no reason or excuse for two people to have eerily similar content styles and ideas.
Just because you’re in the same industry as someone else, you likely have a much different perspective or expertise than they do, which is what should ultimately be displayed in your content.
And not to mention, you should 100% have your own brand, which means your content style should be specific and unique to YOU!
But what do you do when you see a style of content on social media that you’re inspired by and want to emulate?
Are you legally allowed to? If so… how?
Well, you can’t just copy and paste it and claim it as your own design… but you can use a fairly simple and LEGAL solution.
INSERT: social media templates. ✨
If I’m being totally honest with you, my social media feed likely wouldn’t exist without the use of templates! I’m not a designer by trade and I’m not about to pretend to be, so I use social media templates to make my life easier.
But not just any templates…
Before I dive into why I specifically choose to use Your Template Club for most of my social media posts, I first want to point you to a few copyright infringement resources in case you’re not familiar with that side of things:
